Premier Wellness Panel

Overview:

The Diagnostics Premier Wellness Panel is the pinnacle in our stable of wellness offerings.  This panel includes everything provided by the Comprehensive Wellness option and measures serum lipids via NMR LipoProfile (see below for details), vitamin D, and select biomarkers such as glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), glutathione, and retinol-binding Protein.

The NMR LipoProfile consists of the traditional lipid panel markers such as LDL-C, HDL-C, triglycerides, and total cholesterol.  However, it can help determine an individual's risk of heart disease, as well as guide decisions about what treatment may be best if there is borderline or high risk.  The NMR LipoProfile goes beyond the standard markers by measuring the particle size and number of HDL and LDL, as well as providing an Insulin Resistance Score.  The IR Score is a laboratory-developed index associated with insulin resistance and diabetes risk and can be used as one component of clinical assessment. Insulin resistance is the precursor to type 2 diabetes and manifests its earliest measurable abnormalities though changes in lipoproteins. The IR score may be a first alert to a heightened risk of developing T2DM.

G6PD deficiency, an X-linked disorder, is the most common enzymatic disorder of red blood cells in humans, affecting more than 400 million people worldwide. The clinical expression of G6PD variants encompasses a spectrum of hemolytic syndromes. Most patients are asymptomatic, but many have episodic anemia, while a few have chronic hemolysis.

MMP-9 is a marker of inflammation, tissue remodeling, wound healing, and mobilization of tissue-bound growth factors and cytokines. Its expression correlates with abnormal collagen deposition accompanying pancreatic cancer, with lymph node metastasis in breast cancer and with regional vessel invasion by giant cell tumor or bone. MMP-9 contributes to the pathogenesis of numerous clinical disease states, including rheumatic arthritis, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, asthma, and cancer. Current research is exploring the role of this enzyme as a potential drug target.

Glutathione is a tripeptide and is the primary regulator of cellular redox states. Glutathione exists primarily in its reduced form (GSH), which upon oxidation forms the dimer, glutathione disulfide (GSSG). GSH can also create disulfide bridges with proteins as a result of oxidation or enzyme-catalyzed reactions, giving rise to protein-bound glutathione (GSSP). Decreased glutathione levels in whole blood have been associated with Parkinson's disease, HIV, liver disease, renal failure, as well as preëclampsia.

Retinol binding protein serum concentrations reflect the synthesis capacity of the liver and may indicate early malnutrition, acute and chronic hepatic disease, advanced chronic renal insufficiency, and cystic fibrosis.

This panel comes with a Functional Health Report and Standard Process supplement recommendations.
